Senior Information

General Information for Seniors

  • When you fill out your college applications type them or fill them out in blue or black ink.

  • Scholarship applications should be typed unless otherwise specified.

  • Talk with at least three people to get letters of recommendation. (Teachers, employers, individuals who will give you a good letter of recommendation).

  • Keep track of service learning or volunteer work you have done. Many scholarships want to know what you have done for your community.

  • Plan to visit the college that interests you-this is extremely important in choosing among colleges.

  • Search for scholarships: banks, insurance companies, where your parent’s are employed, etc… ASK.

  • If you are a male who has reached or are nearing your 18th birthday, you must register with the Selective Service System


Senior Checklist

Fall/Spring of Junior Year:

  • Do community service

  • Look into colleges that interest you: online or campus visit

  • Job shadow any jobs that may be of interest to you

  • Fill out NCAA Clearinghouse form if you plan on playing Division 1 or 2 sports

  • In October & April the ACT test is offered at Interstate 35 High School

  • Sign up at www.fastweb.com

  • Make sure your senior schedule has everything you need. Challenge yourself, colleges will want to know that you’re working hard and not taking a year off before going to college.

Senior Year:

  • Continue to look into colleges that interest you and apply

  • Ask 3-4 people to write you a letter of recommendation

  • Make a list of your volunteer experience

  • Begin writing college and scholarship essays

  • Complete FAFSA forms 

  • Have your transcripts sent to the colleges that your interested in

  • APPLY for scholarships-You can’t receive a scholarship if you don’t apply

  • Compare financial aid packages awarded by colleges                      

ACT Tests

Xello Program

This program offers a career interest inventory. This is a tool for students to utilize to see careers that may be suited for them according to questions that they answer. This program has links to possible careers, colleges, and much more.

NCAA Clearinghouse

If you intend on playing athletics in college at a Division I or Division II program, you must submit an NCAA Clearinghouse form. The requirements and forms can be found at: www.NCAAstudent.org. You may also call 1-800-638-3731 for eligibility information. It is the student’s responsibility to make sure they take all the required courses to meet the NCAA requirements.                     

College Applications

Begin working on college applications in the fall of your senior year. It is a good idea to apply by Thanksgiving. Colleges will want you to have your transcripts sent to them. Come sign up in the Guidance Office and we will get that taken care of for you.    

College Visits

Seniors will be allowed three college visits during the school year and juniors will be allowed one college visit per semester. Remember, you can utilize the Mondays that are for staff development. Students must obtain and complete the college visit form appropriately.
