“The Board is proud to welcome Dr. Gossen as our next superintendent,” said Board President Jessica Bucklin. “His leadership experience and vision will be a tremendous asset to our school and community as a whole.  I am excited to work alongside him, our amazing staff, and the community to support our students' success in the years ahead.”

Prior to his district leadership roles, Dr. Gossen spent a decade at Des Moines Christian School, where he served as vocal music director and department chair for the school’s music program. During that time, he implemented innovative programming for the vocal music department and advocated for the fine arts through fundraisers and community partnerships.

During his time serving as a district administrator at MPCSD, he also earned his doctorate in education from Drake University. His dissertation focused on operationalizing systems approaches for school improvement, including the importance of process-centered learning for leadership teams in district settings.

“I am honored and excited by the opportunity to serve as the next Superintendent of the Interstate 35 Community School District. I-35 is a district with a strong sense of community, a clear commitment to students, and a vision for continuous growth. I am energized by the possibility of partnering with the Board of Education, staff, families, and community members to build on the district’s strengths and to ensure every student is supported, challenged, and prepared for the future,” said Dr. Gossen after accepting the position.

He went on to say, “Throughout my career, I have focused on student-centered leadership, strong instructional systems, and collaborative cultures grounded in trust and shared responsibility. My experience includes leading schools through academic improvement, implementing effective MTSS structures, supporting staff through professional learning and coaching, and engaging families as true partners in education. As superintendent, I am committed to working collaboratively to advance the mission and vision of I-35, making thoughtful, transparent decisions, and ensuring that our work always reflects what is best for students. I look forward to listening, learning, and leading together as we move the district forward.”

The Board of Directors worked with staff at Grundmeyer Leader Services to conduct the superintendent search to allow adequate time for a leadership transition ahead of the 2026-27 school year. Dr. Gossen will officially begin leading the I-35 Community School District effective July 1, 2026.
