Congratulations to Michael McClelland! Thursday, Dec. 5th, he auditioned & was selected to participate in the 2025 South Central Iowa Bandmasters Association (SCIBA) Honor Band in January! Michael competed with students from schools all over central Iowa including Waukee, Ankeny, Southeast Polk, and Valley. This is one of the highest performing ensembles available to HS band students second only to All-State. Friday, Dec. 6th, he auditioned & was selected as 1st chair alto saxophone for the Honors Concert Band at the Drake University Honor Band Festival. On Saturday, Dec. 7th, he went onto perform with approximately 150 students from across Iowa in the Honors Concert Band at the Drake University Honor Band Festival! These accomplishments are a testament to Michael's hard work, dedication, and countless hours spent practicing to perfect his audition over the past several years.

A fire alarm did occur today due to a sensor issue in one location of the High School at 2:36 PM. The building was quickly cleared and students returned to the building once the problem was resolved. Thank you to all staff for their quick response and getting students back to the learning environment.

I-35 Elementary is hosting a silent pie auction fundraiser at the Sept. 20th home football game to boost funds for Character Development and Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) efforts. The auction table will be live starting 6:30 p.m. and will close at half-time. (7:45 p.m. approximately). Winners should plan to pick up their pie at half-time. I am writing to inform you about an incident that occurred earlier today at school. A small grease fire broke out in our Family and Consumer Science (FCS) classroom. Fortunately, it was quickly contained, and no one was injured.
Out of an abundance of caution, we immediately evacuated the building to ensure the safety of all students and staff. While our fire alarms were activated, we discovered that they malfunctioned during the evacuation process. As a result, an announcement was made over the intercom system instructing everyone to safely exit the building.
Please be assured that the issue with the fire alarm system has since been identified and resolved, and it is now functioning properly. We are working closely with our safety and maintenance teams to ensure that all safety protocols continue to meet the highest standards.
We are grateful for the calm and cooperation of our students and staff during the evacuation, and we are confident that our safety procedures were followed effectively.
