Today, May 29th, some willing volunteers planted 12 cages of tomatoes, 6 zucchini, 5 peppers, 1 cucumber, and 6 watermelons. All are marked, along with a row of green beans. We need volunteers to water said plants the week of May 31st through June 7th. There are two watering can in the garden and a hose by the green house. Any questions, reach out to Sue Meggers.

I-35 Acres Prairie is open for hiking. Get out and enjoy the serenity and beauty of the prairie. It is located behind the school, north of the playground.

The 7th graders are exploring how their consumer choices impact the biodiversity of the Andes, particularly the chinchilla. Ellie Hutton gave us a real world connection by bring her pet chinchilla, Donald. The visit really gave the students a reason to care about their choices.

I-35 students and staff spent the previous week supporting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation by collecting change, purchasing t-shirts, and participating in the JDRF One Walk. The I-35 family raised over $1,050. Way to go Roadrunners!
Like old tractors and cool people? Come help the I35 FFA for a fundraiser lunch on June 14. The Interstate FFA Chapter is excited to be hosting a lunch for the WHO Radio tractor ride on Monday, June 14th at approximately 11:00 am. The Interstate 35 FFA Chapter and FFA Alumni & Supporter group are working together to provide lunch for 400-500 riders. They are in need of volunteers. It was a wonderful evening tonight highlighting the fine arts programs
On Monday the HS Band preformed a private show for 4th and 5th graders to encourage students join the band. The band preformed a beautiful medley of movie soundtracks, and the younger students greatly enjoyed the show!
Today 7th grader Ryan Meyer, was recognized as the statewide winner of the "If I Were Mayor" Youth Essay Contest. For this wonderful achievement, Ryan will receive a $500 scholarship!

Due to the most recent Iowa Department of Public Health Guidelines, the Interstate 35 Community School District Board of Education will meet on Sunday, May 16 at noon to plan accordingly for the remainder of the year. We will communicate with students, staff and families after the meeting about the new guidelines.

Helping Hand has secured 125 food boxes for distribution one more time this year. Food boxes will be available Wednesday, May 12th, from 3pm-4pm (or until boxes are gone) at the west end of the CTE building.
The food boxes contain dairy products (such as a gallon of milk, cottage cheese, sour cream, block of cheddar cheese and butter), 2 packages of meat, and 3 pounds of apples, oranges, potatoes, and onions. All are welcome to a box! Questions or concerns please contact Rose Dickinson at 641-765-4818.
